Surfing

The Maldives has been a paradise destination for surfers since it was discovered by Australian travellers in the 1970s. The Maldives Northern Atoll consists of eight breaks that are regularly populated by surf enthusiasts from around the world. Even the famous WQS O’Neil Deep Blue Open competition has caught on, hosting its last two competitions in the Maldives. The best season for surfing in the Maldives is between April and October, with a variety of breaks making it enjoyable for surfers of all ability levels.

Sand Banks

Relaxation is an industry unto itself in the Maldives and there is no better way to relax than on one of the islands’ beautiful sand banks. Take a day to lay out in the sun or cool off in the shade of thatched umbrellas that can be found on the established sand banks of Kuredu. The tranquil turquoise water of the Indian Ocean is the ideal setting for a day spent lounging, reading, or sipping a tropical cocktail.

Local Excursions

Once you’ve arrived in the Maldives, there are a number of local excursions to keep you occupied. The capital city of Male is an adventure in itself: check out the local fish market, the Grand Friday Mosque, and the Tsunami Monument, built in memory of the 2004 tsunami that devastated the island nation. Of course, water activities are very popular in the Maldives – snorkeling, surfing, and diving are just a few of the memories you can make on your island adventure.
