DIVING

Immerse yourself in enormous shoals of butterflyfish and oriental sweetlips; drift the channels with white tips, hammerheads and whalesharks; descend deep sea ridges with eagle rays, giant napoleans and blue marlin; spot turtles at dawn, dolphins at dusk and mass seasonal gatherings of manta rays; or marvel at the "weird and wonderfuls" that inhabit the vast reef-formations and unique Maldivian thilas. ORIENTATION DIVE
Before engaging in diving activities, divers who have not been diving within the last three months or have logged fewer than 30 dives are required to participate in an orientation dive, conducted daily in the lagoon. Please present your certification card and logbook when you register for diving.
All divers are advised to refrain from diving 12 hours after international flights and 24 hours before travelling by air, including by seaplane. Divers must complete a medical questionnaire prior to their first dive at either of Four Seasons Maldives resorts. Depending on their responses to the questionnaire, divers may be required to pass a complimentary medical examination with doctor.

DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING
Experience the thrill of diving under the close supervision of your PADI instructor. This three-hour course consists of a theory briefing and a confined water session up to 12 metres (40 feet). Participants in this course must be over 10 years old.

SCUBA DIVER CERTIFICATION
If you would ultimately like to attain PADI certification but do not want to invest four days of your vacation, the Scuba Diver Certification is the best way to get started. Over 1.5 days, you will complete a series of theory courses, three confined water dives and two ocean dives and will receive credit towards the completion of the PADI Open Water Certification Course. This certification also qualifies you to dive under the supervision of a dive professional to a depth of 12 metres (40 feet). Participants must be at least 12 years old and must be able to swim.

OPEN WATER CERTIFICATION COURSE
PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors )courses are offered in Japanese, German, Russian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and English. The Open Water Certification Course consists of four days of training in theory and practice. Upon successful completion, a PADI Open Water certificate will be issued which opens the door to endless adventures in diving.

FOR CERTIFIED DIVERS
In the crystal clear waters of the Maldives, certified divers have their pick of truly outstanding diving options, including thilas, kandus and ancient reefs. Daily excursions from each PADI Five-Star IDC Dive Centres include a two-tank morning dive and a one-tank afternoon dive, with sunrise, night and other specialty dives available on request. Dive team are able to offer for you during your stay.

THILA DIVING
Characterised by vast coral formations that top out just beneath the surface, colourful crevices and coral-filled overhangs, thilas are excellent for close encounters with all sorts of marine life, from schooling reef fish and turtles to numerous species of shark.

MANTAS AND WHALE SHARKS
Head to the Maldives between June and October for the region´s manta season. Awe-inspiring sightings are possible from the Baa Atoll to the beautiful cleaning station of Lankan Manta Point on North Malé Atoll.

KANDU DIVING
Kandu (channel) diving involves exciting drift dives along the nutrient-rich currents that flow between the Maldives´ island chains. Scenes include eagle rays and sharks, as well as migrating pelagics such as manta rays and whale sharks.

REEF DIVING
With vibrant inner and outer slopes, wide edges and fascinating terraces, the Maldivian reefs are a destination in themselves. Populated by over 1,000 species of fish, they feature some of the most beautiful corals in the world.

WRECK DIVING
Arrange for a special day at sea, diving the wrecks of the North and South Malé atolls, Lhaviyani Atoll and South Ari Atoll – from the 110-metre (310-foot) Maldives Victory freighter to the double wrecks at the famous Shipyard site.

BECOME A MASTER SCUBA DIVER
Hone your skills, build your confidence and have fun. Certified PADI Advanced Open Water Divers can work their way up the ladder to become Master Scuba Divers, the highest non-­professional ranking in the PADI system, in the waters around Four Seasons Resorts Maldives. Explore depths of up to 30 metres, learn how to navigate under water and select three ´adventure dives´, from nitrox to wreck, from a total of 16 different specialty dives. Once you have reached an advanced level, it´s a great opportunity to specialise. Develop magnificent skills in thrilling new areas alongside some of the most experienced instructors in the Maldives.

WATER SPORTS
At Kuda Huraa, unforgettable land and water diversions beckon. The Water Sports Centre offers a wide range of group and individual activities to suit all age groups and interests. Non-motorised activities such as kayaking and windsurfing are complimentary. Motorised activities such as water skiing and parasailing are available for an applicable charge. The lagoon on the island´s sunrise side is shallow and home to coral reefs, making it ideal for snorkelers. On the sunset side, the water is deeper and ideal for swimming.

INTRODUCTION TO SNORKELLING
Learn snorkelling techniques and how to use snorkelling equipment, all in the safe environment of the Resort´s lagoon. Available every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, this one-hour session is highly recommended for beginners, families with children and for those who wish to refresh their snorkelling skills. Fees apply.

SHARK SAFARI
Enjoy a short speedboat ride to a nearby island for a thrilling two-hour guided snorkelling encounter with shoals of blacktip reef sharks and whitetip reef sharks. A friendly tip from us – do not feed the sharks. Then, head back to the Resort, where marine biologists are available for a discussion on the biology of sharks and their importance to the Maldivian waters, as well as the threats facing their species. Snorkelling experience is required.

HOUSE REEF SNORKELLING
Discover the beauty of the island´s underwater marine life just steps from the island shoreline in this one-hour guided excursion, available every morning. Snorkelling experience is required.

SNORKELLING EXCURSION
Cruise by dhoni to a nearby coral reef and explore the underwater world with one of the in-house marine experts. On the way back, enjoy tea and snacks at sea while engaging in a fish talk with the marine expert. The excursion takes about an hour and a half. Snorkelling experience is required.

SUNSET FISHING
A fishing rod and some bait are all you need to participate in the sunset fishing experience. Catch one, chefs will be delighted to prepare it to your taste. The excursion takes about two hours by dhoni.

BIG-GAME FISHING
Reel in a big tuna, sailfish or mahi mahi from the 16.7-metre (55-foot) High Flyer, a sport fishing boat designed especially for big-game fishing on the high seas. Unmatched by any other boat in the area, the luxuriously furnished High Flyer features an 81-centimetre (32-inch) flat-screen television, surround-sound MP3 music system and other advanced amenities.
